On January 12, 1998, Cultured Pearls of Service interest group was established. On March 14, 1998, thirty ambitious women chartered the Upsilon Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, becoming the third graduate Chapter in Nashville, TN in the South Eastern Region.

The Chapter’s inception was celebrated with a gala and citywide congratulations from then Mayor Phil Bredesen, Governor Don Sundquist, Senator Thelma Harper, members of the House of Representatives, the National Pan Hellenic Council, and the Nashville community.

Since 1998, the Upsilon Psi Omega Chapter has created a slate of signature programs including Baby AKAdemy, adopting families for Christmas, Pencil Partner with the Metro Public School system, a bi-annual Golf Tournament, Pictures with Santa and Music City Men Who Cook.

To date, more than 100 women have been initiated into the Chapter.
